Foster carer training

Training is vital for all social care professionals, especially foster carers.

All foster carers have to undertake training. However, how much training and the type of courses you are required to attend will vary and should be discussed with your supervising social worker during supervision.

To book a place on a course please use the PALS (Performance and Learning) service external link.

For assistance with booking though PALS, contact your supervising social worker. If a booking is urgent please call 0113 378 5274.

You can also view the 2023 training calendar and course outline information pack for more information:

Advanced Training Courses

We also offer advanced training courses for those carers who are at a high level and/or are caring for complex young people. You will need the agreement of your supervising social worker to attend these courses.

Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI)

Providing skills, knowledge and confidence for carers to deal with children and young people who are in crisis so they are in control of the situation to bring about change and growth.

TCI also provides:

  • a structure to make sense of children’s difficult behaviour
  • the tools for foster carers to perform their role in preventing and managing a crisis situation
  • a therapeutic approach to crisis prevention and intervention
