Please note the only courses that need repeating are TCIF refreshers (every 18 months) and First Aid (every 3 years)

This course is an introduction to safeguarding session for those who have never done any safeguarding training before. You should only attend this session once.
You will only need to attend this introductory session if:
- You are a new starter and you have not done any safeguarding training before
- You are in an administrative role and come into contact with children, young people and families and you have not done any safeguarding training before
- You have come to work in Leeds from a different local
If you have done this introduction level (or the old level 1) before, the Leeds Safeguarding Children Partnership (LSCP) offer the subsequent safeguarding course that you need to attend. They offer a refresher session and other appropriate safeguarding training which is bookable via their website.

Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will have an awareness of:-
- The signs and indicators, and types of abuse
- The impact of abuse on child development
- What to do in response to concerns

Once all three videos have been watched you will need to complete a Knowledge Check and return to us along with an Evaluation to receive your certificate. To secure your place on this training course please complete the

There is currently no charge for access to this training. However, all delegates who register for training which includes an LSCP online knowledge check must successfully complete the knowledge check within 3 calendar months of being sent the email which includes links to the course material. If the online knowledge check is NOT completed successfully within 3 months you will be charged £50, irrespective of which agency you are from.This flat fee of £50 is to cover the training material and administrative costs involved with providing the session and is in line with other cancellation charges.

Overview
Practitioners should regularly update their safeguarding training. This will ensure that their knowledge, skills and practice is current and reflects changes to legislation and practice both nationally and locally within safeguarding and child protection.

Details
The focus of this course is on preventing situations from becoming worse and learning vital lifesaving skills until help arrives. This dynamic course relates the subjects being taught to real life situations and has a high level of practical skills. This makes the training more relevant to
the candidate enabling them to deal with a range of situations promptly, confidently and competently.
This course is suitable for all Foster Carers and is available for Residential Staff to support qualified First Aiders. Please note this is not a First Aid regulated qualification.
Objectives
By the end of the course you will be able to:
- Act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
- Treat an unconscious casualty (including seizure)
- Prevent cross infection
- Perform effective CPR
- Use an AED
- Report and record incidents and actions

Course Overview
Introduction to RP will give you the essential theories behind the restorative approach and embed RP as a way of being in your daily practice. Incorporating the theories and ideas explored in the session into all your interactions, will support the aim of making restorative practice a unified approach across the city. The introduction session is an expectation for all staff as it has been identified as a positive approach by OFSTED and is a crucial component in our current rating of outstanding.
The fundamental message of restorative practice is that relationships are key. This idea underpins and changes our approach to working with our clients creating the potential to affect real and lasting change. This refresher course is for foster carers to retain their accreditation through Cornell University.
It enables carers to refresh on the skills taught within the full TCIF course and:

Foster carers must attend this course over 18 months to retain their accreditation with Cornell University.

Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Families (TCIF) emphasises the importance of crisis prevention and crisis de-escalation in ways that help children learn how to avoid losing control. The 5-session training programme teaches crisis prevention strategies and crisis intervention techniques to adults who care for children in their homes and have difficulty accessing training provided through the day. One of the most critical skills for these families who are caring for challenging children in their homes is to teach the children to manager their feelings of frustration, anger and loss in more socially and developmentally appropriate ways.

- Proactively prevent and/or de-escalate a potential crisis situation with a child or young person
- Manage a crisis situation in a therapeutic manner
- Process the crisis event with children and young people to help improve their coping strategies
